Capturing my own Maternity Photos at 23 Weeks

Can we start this blog out by calling out Nikon’s app developers? OH MY WORD. Seriously this app that Nikon has to capture self portraits with is terrible. You can link it to your DSLR and then focus within the app which is awesome, and if you want to hold the phone the entire time and take photos, it works wonderfully. NOW, if you are by yourself and trying to take self portraits without holding a phone… that is a different story. I had to go into settings for every single image I captured and turn on the timer. FOR EACH IMAGE.

But, I did it guys. This is the first time I have captured self portraits that were actually in focus and that I loved! Being pregnant has made me feel so strong and seeing myself in these photos made me loveeee my pregnant body. Because you know some days, you are getting dressed and you look at your body and think where did my figure go? Nothing is fitting me! Oh I look like a tellatubby. But these images made me feel beautiful (which honestly is not something I feel all the time on a normal basis, before being pregnant.)

Here is a little video of my capturing these photos in my lifestyle studio along with the results.

I am sharing all of the finished edited images. I always shoot darker when shooting in my naturally lit studio and then pull highlights in editing. I edited all of these images in Lightroom with my custom preset that I have created and saved for my lifestyle studio photos. I then export them all into Photoshop and run an action on them before exporting the final image. To share online, I then export them all through Blogstomp to get the right file sizes for online sharing. WALAH! Here they are!

Also if you are wondering what that thing on my stomach is, it’s a Dexcom G6. I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 7 and before getting pregnant I wanted to get my blood sugar in line and manage it more closely. Soooo this amazing little thing has helped me watch and monitor my blood sugar and get my A1C from around 7/8 to 5.1 and carry a healthy baby girl.
